Behavior Within the Library

All Library users and staff have the right to a safe and comfortable environment. The following are general policies governing behavior within the Library as adopted by the Board of Directors:

  1. No smoking
  2. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times
  3. Food and drink are limited to Public Lounge only
  4. Limit cell phone use to outside the Library
  5. Children under 10 years of age must be attended by a parent or responsible care giver 13 years of age or older while in the Library
  6. Consideration for patrons' needs for quiet in study areas is appreciated
  7. Library patrons are prohibited from carrying guns or other weapons into the Library. Patrons who have permits for guns will be asked to lock their guns in their cars. If they refuse, they will be asked to leave the Library.
  8. Parents will be notified of incidents involving minor children that occur in the Library or Library parking lot. Parents will be provided with a copy of the security report. Minors who are repeat offenders may be denied access to the Library.
  9. The Library is not responsible for personal belongings in or on Library property
  10. It shall be unlawful for any person to sleep in, or use as sleeping quarters, any public place.

Patrons who exhibit any of the above unacceptable behaviors will be asked to leave the Library. Failure to leave the Library, when asked to do so, will result in a Trespass Warning. Repeated misconduct may lead to legal action or criminal prosecution.

In addition, following staff or users around the building, verbal abuse, staring, communication of threats, physical violence, sexual offenses, or other acts which are menacing or intimidating in nature will result in arrest and permanent exclusion.
